A New Chapter for AOI Quantum Bandwidth

Broadband Infrastructure Is Having Its Moment 

Broadband infrastructure is going through the most significant upgrade cycle in a generation, creating new opportunities for innovation across the cable industry. As AOI continues to expand its Broadband Access business, I’m pleased to announce Steve Pederson's promotion to Senior Vice President and General Manager of Broadband Access, where he will lead our Quantum Bandwidth business through its next phase of growth. 

Cable operators across the country are navigating the migration from 1.2 GHz to 1.8 GHz spectrum and beyond, balancing DOCSIS 4.0 readiness against capital constraints, and building out Distributed Access Architectures while keeping networks running for millions of subscribers. It is a massive undertaking that touches every corner of the outside plant.

The decisions being made today about active hardware will shape network performance for the next decade. The road to DOCSIS 4.0 demands technology that can support downstream extension to 1.8 GHz, upstream expansion well beyond today's upstream limits, and intelligent remote management that reduces reliance on truck rolls. 

AOI has been designing and manufacturing access network products in-house for over 15 years, with vertical integration that runs from lasers and semiconductor material all the way to finished amplifiers. In a market where operational reliability and supply chain confidence matter more than ever, that depth of engineering ownership is a meaningful differentiator. We own the full technology stack, and that gives us the ability to stand behind our products with confidence.

Our Quantum18Ò 1.8 GHz HFC amplifiers are designed with a deliberate engineering philosophy: reduce upgrade friction, protect existing infrastructure investments, and give operators the operational flexibility they need during a complex upgrade transition. QuantumLinkÔ, our remote management platform, extends that philosophy further by enabling intelligent network setup, remote troubleshooting, and real-time performance visibility from anywhere at any time.

Steve Pederson’s promotion gives him leadership of our Quantum Bandwidth business with responsibility for sales, engineering, product strategy, product management, marketing and business development. He joined AOI in 2023 to lead product strategy, management, and development and has made a tremendous impact on the company’s position in the market, as a trusted, long-term partner for cable operators.  

Steve offers more than two decades of HFC industry experience, including senior leadership roles at Scientific-Atlanta and Cisco. During his time at Cisco, Steve led the launches of some of the most widely deployed platforms in the industry, including the GainMaker amplifier line and the GS7000 Node - products that shaped HFC infrastructure as we know it today. His deep understanding of cable operator priorities, his long-standing relationships in this market and his technical expertise across the HFC ecosystem position him to lead AOI Broadband Access business as operators accelerate DOCSIS 4.0 deployments. 

He understands what operators face in the field and has the strategic vision to accelerate the business with a well-informed view of where the market is heading and what it will take for AOI and our customers to succeed together.

I want to take a moment to recognize someone who has meant a great deal to this business: Todd McCrum, our SVP and General Manager of Broadband Access, who is leaving AOI to spend more time with his family.

Todd brought more than 30 years of cable industry expertise to AOI, including a distinguished career in product marketing and business development at Scientific-Atlanta and Cisco. He has a genuine passion for understanding and solving customer problems, and he built an organization committed to our customers. Under Todd's leadership, AOI established itself as a credible, technically superior partner for cable operators navigating the journey to 1.8 GHz and beyond. 

Leadership transitions are a natural part of any growing business, and this one deserves more than a standard send-off. Todd has given AOI his expertise, his energy, and his network, and we are a better organization for it. Steve has worked closely alongside Todd in shaping AOI's Broadband Access strategy, providing continuity for our customers, partners and employees as the business enters its next phase. We wish Todd and his family all the best in this next chapter.

The cable broadband market is at an inflection point, and AOI remains committed to practical engineering, operational reliability, and building products that make upgrading and running an HFC plant simpler.

With Steve at the helm of Quantum Bandwidth and a talented team across sales, engineering, business development, product management, and marketing, I am confident in what comes next.
